It’s a man’s world at the My Paper Executive Corporate Square-off 2013

The sixth My Paper Executive grand finals held on 3 May 2013 at The Cube in Asia Square saw the top three places snagged by the men for the first time in the contest's history.

Winner Alvin Yeo, 29; a Public Relations Consultant at Strategic Public Relations Group, beat 15 other finalists to nab the winning title and $10,000. He also won the “The GMP Group Work Life Champ" award.

One of the judges, Mr Gosh Goh Assistant Director of Corporate Services at The GMP Group, said “Alvin was poised and has a broad spectrum of knowledge.  He has charm and is very humourous, getting his points across in a very engaging way.”

Each of the 16 finalists had to answer questions from the host and the judges. The top six were then chosen and paired to battled it out through a debate in a boardroom setting, where they had to argue their viewpoints to a certain work issue moderated by Nominated MP Mr Nicholas Fang.

The judges and sponsors said that the men had an edge over the women because of their humour, articulation, confidence, and sense of authority when responding to questions.

Ms Gina Goh, Assistant General Manager of Levi's, Denizen and Dockers for Jay Gee Enterprises, said the three men "were sensational and made an impression with their unique personalities, poise, charisma, articulation and eloquence".

The second prize of $5,000 went to Mr Richard Que, 30, Assistant Brand Manager of Procter & Gamble. He also clinched the "Jay Gee Best Dressed Executive" award.   He also felt that "winning goes beyond gender”. He said, "I think it was just more of our personalities and how we showcased whatever the judges were looking for that night, which is great, because there shouldn't be stereotypes."

Mr Nabil Mattar, 31, a Foreign-Exchange Specialist at GFT Global Markets Asia, took away the third prize of $3,000.
