SPH Online garners numberous prestigious international awards

SPH’s online websites and marketing campaigns received top honours recently at the 2012 EPPY Awards and the WAN-IFRA XMA Cross Media Awards.

AsiaOne, Singapore Press Holdings' (SPH) news and lifestyle portal, was awarded the top spot in the Best Online Media Advertising/Media Campaign category at the prestigious 2012 EPPY Awards. It is the only Singapore and Asian news portal to score a win at the Awards.

The 2012 EPPY Awards, which honours the best media-affiliated websites across various categories, is organised by Editor & Publisher magazine, a prestigious monthly journal which covers all aspects of the newspaper industry. The EPPY Awards is judged by more than 60 industry experts and media specialists from the business and academic sectors.

AsiaOne won the award for its Adventure Race 4 project, an island-wide treasure hunt which saw participants deciphering clues to reach various pit stops and taking part in different challenges. AsiaOne's innovative use of various media platforms of print, online, out-of-home, radio, mobile apps and social networks to promote the event garnered the win.

At the XMA Cross media Awards, omy.sg and The Straits Times Online took home the gold and bronze respectively in the award’s monetisation category. Organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, the awards recognise cross-media offerings, and the focus this year was on the use of social media.

Bilingual news and entertainment portal omy.sg won for its omy Blog Club, a community with over 3,000 registered bloggers in Singapore.

Mr Chua Chim Kang, Senior Vice President, Business Development, Chinese Newspapers Division, who is also Editor of Lianhe Wanbao and omy.sg, said: “We are certainly delighted to receive international recognitions from two prestigious awards this year – one in the United States and one in Europe. It shows that we are definitely moving in the right direction with our social media strategy for SPH’s Chinese Newspaper Division and we will continue to focus on this area.”

An eight week "Flying High" campaign for Singapore Airlines which used social media for promotion and created a travel-oriented microsite called Big Story; clinched the award for the online news portal of national broadsheet The Straits Times.
